1.Take the exotic backwaters boattrip from Allapey, Kottayam or Kollam for ultimate relaxation. It’s a beautiful ride through small villages which are totally isolated from main land encountering locals who are bathing or washing clothes in the river or water boat taxi’s dropping children off to school or their homes. The beautiful green palm trees, rice paddies and exotic weather makes you dream away. We actually call it the exotic and rural version of Venice.
2. Munnar is officially in our top-3 list of most beautiful places we’ve been yet; it’s magical and surreal. The never-ending hills with its tea plantations are just drop dead gorgeous. If you’re lucky, you may even see some wild elephants from a distance (we did)! Rent a scooter and ride the cloudy hills of mystical dreams.
3. Laidbackness is the keyword for Kerala which we especially experienced in Cochin Fort. Beautiful colonial buildings, happy children waving the whole time, relaxed rickshaw drivers with no intentions to rip you off and our rendezvous with the beloved mini bananas is what remind us of Cochin Fort.
4. Taking the bus in Kerala is an adventure! Great views, music, yummy snacks and the sweet talks with locals were perfect ingredients for one cool experience.
5. Tropical seafood with coconut as the main ingredient! If you’re into seafood, this is your spot! The food is different from (more spicy) North Indian curries, tandoori dishes and basmati rice.
6. Kerala is the place to be for Ayurveda treatment, but know that a good, reliable treatment is going to make your wallet lighter.
7. Explore the beaches Kovalam, Kannur and Bekal when you have no intentions of visiting Goa. Since we definitely wanted to go to Goa, we skipped the beaches in Kerala. Same same.
Our no-go: Wayanad Sanctuary. You must be lucky to spot wild animals (elephants) in a close distance otherwise it’s just a casual jeepride in the jungle. We have seen more animals chilling on the streets of India than in this national park where we paid money for nothing.
