It would take 3,5 hours to get to Selcuk from Denizli. We decided to take the train instead of the bus because it’s faster and cheaper. No idea why the bus transport is more developed since it’s not always the most handy transportation for long distances.
The next day we wanted to visit the theatre of Ephesus. The receptionist at the hotel and some other travelers told us we didn’t need more time than just 4 or 5 hours, so we could take the train to Izmir in the evening.
Entrance is 30 lira per person. I must say it was quite unique and extraordinary to see the theatre from close distance. I felt small. That’s the right description. And it felt seriously as if we stepped way back in time and imagined a full tribune with audience coming together for not only political and religious events, but also to witness dramas and gladiator games. Amazing! After that we walked to Church of Mary and Library of Celcus. It was so cool to see the ruins of a ancient Greek city of such long time ago. Farhang says many times how awesome it would have been to live in those ancient times.
Recommendation? Yes! Ephesus is really nice; we have seen other ancient cities with ruins (Pompei in Italy and Salamis in Cyprus), but this one was more impressive because of the amazingly huge theatre and Library of Celcus which were remained/restored so well.
