The next question is whether we stay registered in our home country or not. We must deregister from the Netherlands when we’re abroad for more than 8 months. Since we don’t know how long our journey will take or whether we will find a job in Asia or Australia after those 8 months or there could be some other reasons why we would have to come back sooner to the Netherlands, we will not deregister for now. Once things are clear, we can still fix that from abroad through email or phone contact after all. The same goes for our health insurance. We have to live abroad for more than 12 months for being able to give up our health insurance in the Netherlands. So once it’s clear we are going to stay away longer than one year we wil have to fix this one too from abroad. We have inquired whether that would be possible and it was.

Ofcourse we had figured this out more than half year ago since we wanted to choose an health insurance in the Netherlands which had also certain benefits abroad and yet choose a cheaper option to keep our monthly recurring expenses at the lowest.

Considering the travel insurance, we have chosen for Delta Lloyds’ 1-year basic travel insurance package (luggage damage, loss or theft) with extra insurance for accidents and moneyloss.

Considering our vaccinations, we had chosen an health insurance which fully covered the costs of it (total of 1500 euros with malaria pills included). Below I have placed a list with the needed vaccinations for traveling around in Asia (given in a period of couple of months).

– Yellow Fever

– Hepatitis A and B

– DTP Vaccine

– Stomach Typhoid

– Rabies Vaccine

Ofcourse we did not forget about the malaria pills and also other important medicines we know we may need during traveling.

I think it’s very important to have these insurances; accidents or robbery can happen anywhere, anytime and it gives me a peace of mind knowing that there are organisations who can back up in case of emergencies.
