Day 1: The Start Of An Epic Journey

Today, 5 september, was the day we had been waiting for more than 2 years of preparations. Our dream was about to come true: we would leave our comfortable homes to discover the big unknown world. Our flight would departure from Bruxelles (Belgium) and Farhang’s dad would drop us off. So last couple of weeks was all about saying our goodbyes to our family and friends, finishing our to-do list before departure and waiting for the big day to come. And it was there, all of a sudden. Time went by so soon. I woke up at 7.30 pm, with a nauseous feeling. Saying goodbye to our loved ones was one thing, but saying goodbye to my mom would be the most difficult thing I would have to do. It was the moment we both had been trying to ignore for a long time. I felt horrible and I know she was feeling the same. Our goodbye was very emotional and that was the moment I knew for sure I could never ever leave Holland forever. Miss you already mommy & love you tremendously!
We drove to Bruxelles and our flight would departure at 12.30 pm. I must say carrying a backpack of 14 kilos and a daypack of 5 kilos at the front is not the most easy task. One tip: don’t try to pick up something off the ground when you’re loaded with such a weight.
Our airplane would first make a stop in Mykonos before flying further to Santorini. Our pilot was not the most experienced one since our landings went not very smoothly; at one point many passengers kind of got scared because we hit the ground so hard. Oh well, that’s what you get sometimes when you fly with cheap airlines.
We reached Santorini safe and sound and the owners of the villa we had booked had arranged a pick-up at the airport. It was almost sunset and we finally arrived at our destination. I was mesmerized, it was like a dream destination! We unpacked our things and the first thing we did was just chill at our balcony. Flying can be very exhausting and we both were very tired. It was already quite late when we got hungry and went out for some food. The best way to end our very first day was by tasting the Greek Souflaki. And I must say it was damn good.
